Catholic life at St. Mary’s Primary School is deeply rooted in the principles of faith, community, and education. Our school fosters a nurturing environment where pupils are encouraged to develop their spiritual, moral, and academic potential. Central to Catholic life at St. Mary’s is the celebration of the sacraments, participation in regular Mass, and daily prayer, which help to instil a strong sense of faith and devotion in our pupils.

Our curriculum integrates Catholic teachings and values, promoting an understanding and appreciation of the Catholic faith through Religious Education lessons. Pupils are taught to live out Gospel values such as compassion, service, and justice in their everyday lives. The school community is also dedicated to social outreach and charitable activities, encouraging pupils to engage in acts of kindness and service to others.

St. Mary’s Primary School emphasises the importance of a supportive and inclusive community. Parents, teachers, and parish members work together to create a welcoming environment that reflects the school’s Catholic identity. Through various school events, liturgical celebrations, and community service projects, pupils learn the importance of friendship and the value of contributing to both the school and the wider community.

Catholic Social Teaching

Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is about how we can live and treat others in a way that makes the world a better place. Think of it like a set of rules for being kind and fair, just like the rules you follow at home or school to get along with everyone. Here’s a simple way to understand it:

  • Everyone is special: God made each person special, so we should treat everyone with respect, no matter who they are.
  • Help people in need: If someone is hungry or needs help, we should try to share and care for them, just like we’d want others to help us.
  • Be fair: We should make sure things are fair for everyone, like sharing toys or making sure everyone gets a turn.
  • Work together: People need to work together in a community, like a team, to make sure everyone is happy and cared for.
  • Take care of the world: God gave us the Earth, so we should protect it by not wasting things, picking up litter, and being kind to animals.

CST teaches us how to love and care for each other, just like Jesus taught!
