Our School Council is made up of a group of Y6 children who meet regularly to make St. Mary’s an even better place than it already is. There are 12 members of the School Council. Mrs Clinton helps us with some of our decision making.
What do we do?
Each member of the School Council represents a Pastoral Care group.
Everyone from Y1 to Y6 belongs to a Pastoral Care group which usually meets once a month. In Pastoral Care we have representatives from every year group getting together so that we can get to know each other and find out what is going on in different parts of the school. We also talk about important topics such as anti-bullying and the rights of children. We are able to talk to our School Council member who lets us know about things that are happening in school, and we can talk to them about any of our ideas, and they can discuss these ideas at the School Council meeting.
At our meetings we talk to each other and share our ideas about how to make St. Mary’s a friendlier environment for everyone, as we at School Council are the voices of the child. We have also talked about school lunches, behaviour, playtimes and ideas for fundraising. We get the opportunity to talk to our governors and PTA and in the summer we help to contribute to the summer fair.
This year we have helped with the local food bank, and have fundraised for CAFOD and UNICEF and other charities close to St. Mary’s heart.
