The Fairtrade committee have been working hard to let everyone know how important Fairtrade is. We have earned our ‘Fair Active’ award and we are working towards becoming a ‘Fair Achiever school’. Our Fairtrade tuck shops have proved very popular and they now take place on a half termly basis.
The children organised a Christmas coffee morning as well as a coffee morning during Fairtrade fortnight to help our friends and family to find out all about Fairtrade. Yvonne Ewington from Sunderland City Council came as one our guest speaker as well as Joan Formosa.
There were Fairtrade refreshments, a raffle, Fairtrade gifts for sale and we were entertained with wonderful singing by the choir and KS1 children. Every class learnt about Fairtrade during Fairtrade fortnight and we were lucky enough to welcome staff from ‘Tropical Wholefoods’ to talk to us about the Fairtrade products they make in Sunderland and the farmers they support. The Fairtrade committee had a Fairtrade stall at the summer fair. We sold Fairtrade gifts and snacks and the Fairtrade bananas dipped in melted chocolate were extremely popular!
