In June we spent a week learning about ways we can look after the environment. The Action Team did some litter picking at Seaham beach with Louise Harrington from the Heritage Coast Partnership (Durham County Council). We collected lots of bags of litter but we hope to go back as there is still lots to collect! We also went to litter pick at Barnes Park with Ian Graham (Sunderland Council). Ian also came into school to talk to us about litter and the harmful effect it can have on wildlife. Each class also took turns to litter pick in our school grounds during the week.
We were happy to welcome Elaine Terrett from Sunderland Council into school. Elaine worked with every class teaching us about the different types of energy and helping us to think of ways we can try to save energy in school.
Throughout the week we tried hard to remember to reduce, reuse and recycle. Anna from Groundwork North East came to talk to us in an assembly and worked with us in class to teach us about ways we can recycle electronic equipment. Anna set up a collection point in school and friends and family were able to bring electrical items to be recycled. Anna has also helped us to set up a battery collection point in school.
