At St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, we uphold and teach pupils about the British Values
At St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, we are committed to promoting fundamental British values, which include democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. These values are not only at the heart of our national ethos but are also deeply embedded in our school’s culture through our own unique values framework, known as BREW: Beliefs, Rights, Environment, and Wellbeing.
- Beliefs: We encourage pupils to appreciate and respect the diverse beliefs found in Britain today, while also nurturing their own spiritual and moral development. This aligns with British values of mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs, fostering a community where every child feels valued and understood.
- Rights: Our emphasis on rights reflects the British values of democracy and individual liberty. We teach our pupils about their rights and responsibilities, empowering them to express their views and make informed choices, always in a manner that respects the rights of others.
- Environment: We instil a sense of responsibility towards both our immediate environment and the wider world. This commitment aligns with the rule of law, emphasising that we must all work together to protect and respect our environment, abiding by both school rules and national laws.
- Wellbeing: The wellbeing of every child is at the forefront of our school’s mission. By promoting physical, emotional, and mental health, we ensure that our pupils are prepared to lead happy and successful lives. This focus on wellbeing supports the British value of individual liberty, allowing children to thrive in a supportive and caring environment.
Through our BREW values, St Mary’s Catholic Primary School provides a foundation for pupils to grow into responsible, respectful, and well-rounded citizens, ready to contribute positively to our school community and society at large.
The promotion of modern British values and democracy is clearly evident within our school through the following :-
